Privacy Policy
Recall is built privacy-first. The audiobooks you listen to and the notes you take are nobody's business but yours.
The short version: Recall has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Nothing you do in the app is ever sent anywhere, because there is nowhere to send it to.
The short version
- No servers, no accounts. You don't sign up, log in, or give us your email. Recall has no backend at all.
- Your audiobooks stay yours. Recall plays DRM-free audiobook files that you already own. You pick them from your own iCloud Drive or Files; the app copies them into its private storage on your iPhone. Nothing is ever uploaded.
- Your highlights, notes and place stay on your device. Highlights, notes, flashcards, bookmarks and your playback position are stored locally. We never see them.
- We don't track you. No analytics SDKs, no advertising, no third-party trackers, no data sold or shared.
Information we do not collect
- No name, email, phone number or account.
- No location.
- No contacts, photos or health data.
- No browsing or usage tracking.
- No copies of your audiobooks — they never leave your device.
Data stored on your device only
The audiobook files you import, plus everything you create in Recall — highlights (with their place in the audiobook), notes, flashcards and review history, bookmarks, chapter positions, playback speed and your resume position — are stored only on your device, in the app's private sandbox. Deleting the app deletes this data. We cannot recover it, because we never have it.
Captions and speech recognition
Recall can generate read-along captions using Apple's on-device speech recognition. The audio is processed on your iPhone and the resulting transcript is stored locally with the book. Your audio is not uploaded to us or to any third party. iOS may download a one-time language model from Apple the first time you use captions in a given language.
Your audiobook files
Recall does not host, sell, stream or download any audiobook content. It is a player for files you already own and provide. When you import a file, Recall copies it from the location you chose into its own private storage so it can play offline. That copy lives on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Purchases
There are none. Recall is completely free, with no subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no payment information of any kind.
Crash reports
If you opt in to Apple's standard crash reporting (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share anonymised crash logs with us through App Store Connect. This is Apple's built-in mechanism — there is no third-party SDK in Recall, and these reports contain no personal information or audiobook content.
Children
Recall is a general-audience audiobook player and is not directed at children.
Your control
- Delete any audiobook, highlight, note or card inside the app at any time.
- Export your highlights and cards to Anki CSV or Markdown whenever you want them elsewhere.
- Delete all of your data by deleting the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
